1. What is the "Good Morning" Program?

The program is a telephone reassurance program designed to assist senior citizens or adults with disabilities in the community.  Many of these senior citizens or adults could be living alone, do not have someone to check in on them regularly, are at risk of sudden illnesses, falls, accidents, and social isolation.  The goal of the program is to assist our seniors and adults so that they may continue living an independent lifestyle, and provide families the security of knowing that their loved one will have a source of daily contact.

2. Is there a fee for the "Good Morning" Program?

No, This is a free service provided by the York Police Department for the residents of York.

3. How does the "Good Morning" Program work?

The "Good Morning" program is simple; each morning between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., the participant calls into the police department.  The phone number for them to call is 207-363-4444. 

A trained dispatcher will take your call.  If you fail to call the dispatcher will, after attempting to contact you, follow the pre-arranged procedures left on your application.  This may include contacting the participant’s backup person or dispatching a police officer to the participant’s residence.  At this point, the officer will make every attempt to verify the participant’s well-being upon arrival.

4. How can I participate in the "Good Morning" Program?

Just complete the enrollment package and drop it off at the York Police Department. 

Then enrollment package consists of an application, and waiver for each person interested in the “Good Morning” program.  This enrollment package can be found on the York Police Department.  Expect to make a daily call to the “Good Morning” program dispatcher. 

5. Are there any restriction regarding who can participate?

You must be a resident of York.  

You must agree to make a daily telephone

You must agree to let us know when you plan to be away. 

You must be a senior citizen (62+) or an adult with disabilities in the community who could be living alone, do not have someone to check in on them regularly, are at risk of sudden illnesses, falls, accidents, and social isolation.

6. What if I have a Lifeline?

The "Good Morning" program is an excellent complement to LifeLine because you make a daily telephone call to the Good Morning Program Dispatcher.

Lifeline is a separate program for emergencies such as falls or accidents or health problems requiring emergency assistance. 

There are many companies out there who supply a lifeline service.  Please contact your primary care physician for more information regarding these services.
